It holds the PlayBook at a great angle and charges it very quickly - about 2 hours from near empty to 100%.The problem is with the connector. The base has a magnetic connector that includes three spring loaded pins. The pins extend to make contact with the three cupped connectors on the PB side of the connection. After many uses (and probably a few where the PB was inadvertently put in upside down - hey, it happens) the springs stop working very well and they no longer make a connection. If the middle one fails, you will know because the PB will not get that charging lightning bolt. However, if either of the sides stop working, you will still get the lightning bolt, but it will NOT charge. This problem is well documented on the Crackberry website. It seems the only people who ever review things are the ones upset. This product is awesome. very compact, very unobtrusive, but very powerful. It charges very quickly and is great way to display my Playbook when using as a clock on the nightstand. Very easy to use, the magnetic hook-up is cool and there is nothing to plug in. Only possible knock is that the Playbook design covers the HDMI-out when charging so you can't run media to your flatscreen when on the docking station. However, during straight media playback the battery life on the playbook is very good so it has not been an issue for me.Also, you have to remember to tilt the tablet into and out of the dock (like the little paper instruction slip included in the packaging says)... |
